Within minutes he arrived, scanning surroundings and pausing beneath the tree in confusion—presumably my scent trail ended there without visual presence. Finally looking upward, he displayed clear surprise before pretending interest in ground-level acorns. Certainly not searching for me—just fascinated by local acorns.
